AJL Displays started life out in the early 1970s when Allan J. Lewis opened a wholesale business called Stage Decor providing Christmas decorations to pubs, clubs and restaurants and also offering an installation service.
Changing its trading name to AJL Displays in 1978, AJL went on to supply and install Christmas decorations for scores of blue chip organisations throughout the UK.
Looking for year round sales as the Christmas business was only seasonal, AJL started to supply artificial trees and plants to its existing customers. This was easy as the majority of Christmas tree manufacturers in the Far East also made artificial trees. AJL Displays capitalised on the 1980's boom of artificial landscaping in bars and restaurants, working throughout the UK. With installations in the licensed and leisure sectors growing at a rapid rate, this division increased its services and products to become a full bar/shop fitting contractor covering all stages from design through to supply and installation.
In 1984, Allan, along with his wife Andrea, a qualified florist, opened a flower shop at the main showroom offering both fresh and silk floral displays. The "florist" has grown to become one of the largest wedding and event suppliers in South Wales handling all aspects of venue decoration. This division also benefits from the huge stock holding of cross-over products in the Christmas and artificial ranges.
In 1999, we opened up our first E-Commerce website known today as ChristmasSupermarket.com which specialises in all types of Christmas decorations and has gone from strength to strength since its launch. With products ranging from 30ft pre lit LED trees to a single glass bauble, it is now one of the most popular Christmas online stores with thousands of happy retail and wholesale customers worldwide.
Based on the success of ChristmasSupermarket.com we decided to launch a sister website which would offer our complete artificial range of products. ArtificialSupermarket.com offers an unrivalled choice of artificial plants, trees, flowers and fruit. With over 2500 products in stock we have been able to increase our range to include pots and planters, artificial hanging baskets, artificial lawns and custom built trees up to 8 metres tall and even come and install it for you!
With plenty of free warehouse space and a successful online sales and distribution system we decided to diversify into a multiple online retailer. In 2010 we launched our third online store, Noveltysupermarket.com which is a large E-tailer of fancy dress, joke and novelty products.
Planned for 2011 is our latest store LightingSupermarket.co.uk stocking a comprehensive range of light fittings from traditional and classic to contemporary.
2012 will see the launch of two new stores; CelebrationSupermarket.com, specialising in all types of party products and accessories and SeedSupermarket.com, stocking a huge range of garden seeds and gardening accessories.
